Fibres
NOMEX® is the brand for protective solutions based on a family of highly heat-resistant, flame-resistant aramid fibres invented and produced by DuPont. The high level of protection is engineered into the molecular structure of the fibre. It does not come from chemical treatment. This means that the heat and flame resistance of NOMEX® is inherent and permanent, that its protective performance will last the life of a garment. In addition to managing extremes of heat through advanced thermotechnology, NOMEX® brand protective apparel also delivers optimum comfort and durability. With its proven reliability, you can be sure that NOMEX® will perform when the heat is on. NOMEX® is a registered trademark of DuPont or its affiliates for its high temperature resistant aramid fibre. NOMEX® fibres are used in a wide range of applications, such as protective apparel where high temperature and chemical resistance are critical. DuPont advanced fibre technology has developed a family of fibres uniquely suited for the requirements of specific end-users.
Key characteristics of NOMEX®
| Thermal : | NOMEX® is inherently flame resistant, which means that it does not melt but starts to decompose only at temperatures above 370°C. |
| Chemical : | NOMEX® presents a high resistance to chemicals and does not dissolve easily. |
| Mechanical : | NOMEX® has high physical resistance, like high break and tear resistance and also presents high durability through for example high abrasion resistance. |
Cost Effectiveness : It has been demonstrated that its inherent properties make the wearlife of a NOMEX® garment three to five times longer than that of similar garments made of blended or treated fabrics.
